How To Change Your MIG Welder Liner

How To Change Your MIG Welder Liner

There are multiple reasons you might experience wire feeding issues, and one of the culprits may be the MIG welder liner. Encountering any issue during a weld can be frustrating, but don’t get too worked up; replacing liners is incredibly easy. In this guide, we’ll show you how to change your MIG welder liner so you can get back to completing quality welds in no time.

Before removing anything, there are three key things to remember. First, the power supply needs to be off during this entire process. Secondly, you must also disconnect the MIG gun from the wire feeder during the whole process. Finally, you should have a wrench by your side for tightening and loosening certain components.

Now that those important steps are out of the way, you can remove the nozzle from the MIG gun. This is a very straightforward step, and once you complete that, you can remove the contact tip and gas diffuser. If you have trouble removing the contact tip or gas diffuser, use a suitable set of pliers to get the job done.

Lay the gun down in an area that’s big enough for it to lay as straight as possible. Don’t worry if it’s not completely straight on a mathematical level—it simply needs to be straight enough for you to remove the liner. Speaking of which, next, you can unscrew and remove the liner from the MIG gun.

Once the old liner is out of the way, you can slide the new liner into place. Don’t forget to screw the liner back in when it’s inside. Once you have it securely in place, trim the new liner to size. Specifically, you’ll only want ¾-inch of the new liner to stick out. Be very careful when cutting the liner to ensure there are no kinks that can catch on the interior of the gun.

Remove any kinks in the liner, if necessary, and when you have a clean, evenly cut liner, you can move onto the final steps. Put the gas diffuser and contact tip back into place, tightening them with your wrench until they’re nice and secure. Once they’re back in place, put the nozzle back on the gun, and you’re ready to go.

Now that you know how to change your MIG welder liner, the only thing left to worry about is how to find the replacement in the first place.
